Five members of a gang of kidnappers have been arrested for allegedly abducting a doctor and a Professor.

The police said that the suspects allegedly abducted their victims from Owerri, Imo State and brought them to Lagos, where they were kept until ransom is paid to them.

It was alleged that the suspects who operate mainly from the Eastern part of the country allegedly smuggled their victims to their hideout located at Igando area of Lagos

Those arrested were identified as Kenneth Chinedu, David Obiora a.k.a  Emperor, 21, Ogbuje Gift a.k.a Baron, 23, Ogu Obu , 31 and Lawrence Ndubuisi ,30

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who paraded the suspects, said on September 21, 2018, information was received from a credible source that some kidnappers who had successfully kidnapped a victim at Owerri in Imo State were taking refuge at Igando area of the state.

Edgal said that the information received indicated that the kidnappers, after collecting millions of Naira as ransom from the relations of the victim, vanished with the victim’s Toyota Jeep.

He said that the information also indicated that the suspects later re-grouped at Igando and were searching for more people to kidnap.

Edgal said that based on the information, he directed the DPO, Igando Division to work hand-in-hand with operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) at, Ipakodo base, to arrest the criminals.

He said that acting on the directives, the undercover operatives arrested one Kenneth Chinedu, who he said is a member of the Kidnapping gang.

He said that the said Kenneth later led operatives to arrest other gang members.

He said: “Those arrested were identified as David Obiora a.k.a Emperor, 21, Ogbuje Gift a.k.a Baron, 23, Ogu Obu, 31 and Lawrence Ndubuisi, 30. Exhibits recovered from them include one Toyota Highlander with REG No. EKY-744-FIH; one Toyota Sienna Bus and REG No. EPE-326-FH.”

The Lagos State Police boss further stated that during interrogation, the suspects all confessed to the crime and admitted that they collected the sum of N6 million from their two previous victims, one, a lecturer at Imo State University and the other a medical doctor whose Toyota Jeep, was stolen despite collecting ransom money from his relations.

Edgal said: “They also confessed to series of robberies/car snatching which they carried out in Lagos and its environs, they led operatives in the recovery of a stolen Toyota High Lander Jeep Reg. No. EKY-744-FH and one Toyota Sienna bus with Reg. No EPE-326-FH. According to them, they snatched these vehicles from their owners.”

He said that the gang members also mentioned others who are still at large. Adding that efforts are on to apprehend them and recover their firearms.
