Children between ages nine and 16 premiered five documentaries touching on philanthropy, morals, innovations and unsung heroes.
At an award ceremony hosted at Eko Hotel, Lagos, Ita Hozaife, founder Ink Marks Ltd, the social enterprise which brought the children together said the effort was geared towards discovering talents in the young ones especially in the area of filmmaking.
According to Hozaife, notwithstanding challenges experienced with sponsors of the programme this year, they still cannot deny the children the opportunity of making their talents known to the world.
“Nigeria has had quite a challenging year. And it because we really couldn’t get much from our sponsors like we have had in the previous years, we still cannot deny these young lads the opportunity to showcase their talents to the world.
“And today we are very proud we took that decision because each of the documentaries you were seeing on the screen with little guidance from us, was conceptualised, written, acted, prepared and produced by these young lads. They handled the cameras on their own, they asked the subjects questions they felt were necessary while at the same time were able to capture whatever shots they considered necessary,” Hozaife said.
The Ink Mark Founder also noted that prior to the filming, the children were given trainings on how to tell their stories, stories that affected them and their communities, how they can handle camera, editing, among other things.
“This is how we have been doing it since 2011. The Reel Kids: Destination Stardom Award, like every past editions have succeeded in motivating the kids to go further. This is because as they excel, they are happy that they appreciated and that is why we decided to give them awards based on their respective performance.
The titles of the films premiered tin 2015 edition of include: A Heap of Hope, Busted! Home Street Home, Limitless, Lost And Found (LAF)
