I am a magazine aficionado.  I buy it first before I realise that it may not be so good. This I did for long before I decided that it was better to browse it first and then decide if there are areas that interest me. I am famous for remaining at a magazine stand at bookshops and airports for up to one hour browsing through the pages of the magazine, laughing, making mental notes. I have been stealing magazine knowledge since I was 12-years- old and travelling through them for longer. I was in London, mentally, knew the streets and all the fancy shops since I was 13 years, long before I  physically arrived in London.

My love for magazines peaked at seventeen when I visited my boss, the late Onyanta Ogwiji, one of NTA ‘s finest, whose house became my mecca for the pile of international magazines in her house. I have also been involved with cartoon magazines, Asterix, Charlie Brown, Snoopy and Hagar the horrible, since I was nine.

I have always been a magazine person and trust me, it’s where life’s best secrets, wisdom nuggets and travel, fashion, food and health information are so beautifully embedded. I save towards buying at least two in a month to keep me abreast and fill me with new knowledge. Today let me share some of my favourite magazines, their strengths and why I still take them into my convenience for quiet readings.  Here are five of my favourite magazines after all these years.

1. Vogue. This international beauty and fashion magazine remains on my top list since I started reading it. Packed with alluring fashion photos, health news and very well written articles, Vogue is not about fashion, it’s about work ethics and travel.
Every edition for me is a collector’s item packed full of refreshing ideas. Now that my Ghanaian brother Enningful now edits British Vogue, I pay even more attention.

2. Vanity Fair. For me an all-time favourite. This magazine contains some of the most well written features in any magazine local and international. In-depth writings about everything under the sun, a serial rapist, a 1945 murder, a property magnate gone burst, Donald Trump and interviews from Obama to Lupita Niyongo to some of fashion and media’s biggest names. I am totally enthralled by this magazine and have been reading it since I was 23-years- old. I want to thank DG of the Shehu Musa Yar’adua centre for finding it worthy to stock them in her library. A great decision. So when my copy does not come in on time, I go to the Shehu Musa Yar’adua centre to drink deep of Vanity fairs wisdom, writing style and amazing stories. Full of Joy. Full of Lessons. Broadens the mind.

3. Readers Digest. A magazine for all time. I may have up to 1,000 back copies. Everything from jokes to Ronald Reagan advice, to his son who is getting married, is here. My favourite columns inclusive Laughter the best medicine and Everyday heroes.

4. The Oprah Magazine. Multiple award-winning TV Talk show host and Media Mogul, Oprah Winfrey has gifted us with a phenomenal magazine containing such good information including, book recommendations, holiday recommendations and ‘The O interview’ where Oprah talks to some of the world’s finest men and women. Take it from me, Every edition of this magazine is a special treat as all magazines should be.

5 Town and Country.  A blend of stories, architecture, landscape, lifestyle, Real Estate and update on jewellery which I love very much and a bit on fashion and trends.
