There must be fixed terms for our legislators, as it is for the chairmen of local governments, governors, and the president so that all of them cannot continue mess around with our future. Politicians should live in their constituencies so as to have experience of the area and the problems of the people they represent.
Most importantly, there should be a form of proportional representation in the country since democracy is a game of numbers. We cannot have a state with a population of 15 million people having 3 Senators while some states with less than 2 million people having 3 Senators too. I would add to that if legislators want our democracy to develop for the progress of our country; they should be patriotic enough to see Nigeria as a nation of one people and common destiny and work together for the development and advancement of the people and the nation. There must be no sentiments on religion, ethnicity and geographical divide; emphasis should be only on credibility.
We must uphold ideals embodied in our National Anthem and the National Pledge. We should not betray our common goals. The rule of law must be respected and discipline maintained at all cost. Corruption in all forms must be stopped and severe penalties meted out to deal with corrupt politicians, civil servants, corporate bodies and even traditional institutions as well as religious bodies that champion anarchy in the country. Nigerian economy should not be in the hands of misguided individuals who have been given direction by Western nations that carter only to their own developments.
These Western nations create tensions in other countries, and more tensions means civil unrest and fear. The Nigerian government has becomes a slave to foreign powers. Our elite, politicians and religious leaders should have the fear of God in their minds and hearts. We should pray that God saves us from the hands of evil-minded Nigerians.
