As one of the measures to address impending floods announced by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NHSA), Bayelsa State government has established some dedicated call lines to enable residents in the state to report cases of high-water level in their areas.
A joint statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson and his Environment counterpart, Mr Ebipatei Apaingolo, said the emergency call lines would be open 24 hours, every day of the week, and was aimed at averting the devastating experience of 2012 flood incident.
They announced that the emergency mobile numbers for citizens to report any rise in water level are 08025814636, 08110413567 and 09037582261.
According to them, the development is coming on the heels of the alert issued by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NHSA) that nine states, including Bayelsa on the axis of River Niger and three others on the River Benue axis, would experience floods.
The statement also urged Bayelsans to take advantage of the mobile numbers to report flood cases and also support government’s effort by keeping their immediate environment clean and open up drainages within their vicinity.
