The chairman of Kwali Area council,p Nuhu Daniel Kwali, has ordered officials of Environmental and Sanitation to commence clearing of drainages as well as evacuation of waste across the area council in order to avert flood.
Kwali, who gave the order during an inspection of the ongoing clearing of drainages and evacuation of water at some locations within the council on Saturday, said the action was necessary because of flooding. He recalled how floods submerged some houses, shops and farms in Sheda community last month.
“We are trying to avert what happened earlier last month in Sheda community where some houses, shops and farms were submerged by flood,” he said.
According to him, the initiative was also designed to remove debris, silt, and waste blocking major drainage channels, ensuring the free flow of stormwater while reducing the risk of flooding during the rainy season.

 

The chairman, however, expressed displeasure over indiscriminate waste disposal, especially into drainages by some residents, saying the council was making arrangements to procure waste disposal bins that will be mounted at designated places for dumping of waste in the area.

 

He expressed his administration’s commitment to creating cleaner surroundings and promoting healthier living conditions for all residents.

 

Kwali also assured residents that his administration will continue to implement practical initiatives that will enhance public health, improve infrastructure, and make the council a cleaner and more resilient community.

Kwali, who gave the order during an inspection of the ongoing clearing of drainages and evacuation of water at some locations within the council on Saturday, said the action was necessary because of flooding.
