Severe flooding has destroyed the Saminaka-Marjire Road on the outskirts of Saminaka town, cutting off Marjire and four other agrarian communities from Saminaka, the Lere Local Government headquarters of Kaduna State.

Hon. Mathew Bulus Gambo, Chairman of Lere Local Government, expressed appreciation for Governor Uba Sani’s swift action in forming a high-powered committee, chaired by Chief of Staff Sani Kila, to assess the damage. Gambo emphasised that this response demonstrates a strong commitment to addressing the crisis faced by the affected communities.

“The collapse of this bridge has severed the vital connection between Saminaka and several communities, crippling economic activities, particularly in our agrarian region,” Gambo said.

The committee also inspected other flood-affected areas, including Wawan Rafi Village, where another bridge had collapsed, as well as Nasarawa and Ungwan Shuru in Saminaka township.

Governor Uba Sani assured that his administration would take prompt action to address the issues faced by the communities and Lere Local Government Area as a whole. The road collapse has had a severe impact on these communities, which rely heavily on agriculture.

Speaking through Chief of Staff, Malam Liman Sani Kila, who led the Flood Impact Assessment Committee to Lere LGA, the governor underscored his administration’s dedication to rural economic development. Kila pledged that in addition to reconstructing the damaged infrastructure, relief materials would be provided to the affected communities.

Kila acknowledged the urgent need for intervention, noting that the flood’s damage has isolated the five communities and severely disrupted their commercial activities.

“We assure you that Governor Uba Sani is committed to supporting the rural economy and addressing the needs of the citizens. Our committee will report these developments to the governor and urgent action will be taken,” Kila stated.
