The IRC Country Director, Allan Freedman, stated this yesterday in Lokoja during a meeting with the Acting Executive Secretary, Kogi State Emergency Management Agency, Mrs. Alice Ogedegbe.
Freedman said apart from the relief materials, the organisation would also support the agency in the area of capacity building so as to prepare it for better performance during disaster.
He advised SEMA to work in collaboration with other stakeholders in disaster management in the state so as to get assistance in human resources during the flood.
Earlier, the state Acting Executive Secretary had solicited the support of IRC in capacity building and logistics for effective camp management, saying that the state was ready to partner with IRC and other NGOs in its efforts to cushion the effect of flood on the people.
She said the state is putting up 16 camps across the nine local governments affected last year and that schools would be set up in all the camps so that curriculum would not be distorted should the flood happen.
