Flood has sacked students of Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Opu Nembe in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State due to incessant heavy rain in some parts of the state in recent time.

The students, who were seen scrambling for accommodation after the flood had submerged their classrooms, lamented that the state government had abandoned the school.

A staff of the school, who spoke to Daily Trust on Sunday on the condition of anonymity, said apart from the flood menace, the school’s infrastructures suffered dilapidation during the rainy season.

He disclosed that the school was still using classroom blocks inherited by the then Rivers State Government because Bayelsa State Government had not done anything to improve on the learning facilities in the school since its creation in 1996.

He said: “It is very pathetic to see a Nembe government school which has produced countless intellectuals in the state in this mess.” 

Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mr Ayiba Duba, however assured the people of the state that the state government was making frantic efforts to mitigate the adverse effects of flood in the state.
