The Director General (DG) of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Salihu Garba, has said that five communities have been displaced, with houses and farmlands submerged by flood in the state.

Garba, who noted that 11 LGAs: Mokwa, Lavun, Edati, Gbako, Lapai, Agaie, Katcha, Magama, Rijau, Mariga and Chanchaga, were affected, said, “The flood incidents are in various degrees, in some areas houses have been submerged, while in some farmlands washed away and in some areas like Mokwa, five communities displaced.”

He said Gov Umaru Bago had directed the agency to carry out an assessment of the affected communities in order to mitigate the effects on the economy.

Garba noted that the early warning system yielded results in saving lives, adding that the agency was working assiduously with a comprehensive assessment list for short-term relief measures for people displaced. (NAN)
