Flood victims need assistance

A flooded area in the village

Since the onset of the rains this year, many houses have been submerged and in some cases, washed away by flood. Only recently, flood washed away a vehicle with its occupants in Lagos State. Most victims of the flooding have nowhere to go and are stranded. I call on government to look into their plight.

Also, governments of states that are prone to floods should consider the construction of estates to accommodate people living in areas that could be affected. Government is always asking people in flood prone areas to relocate, but the truth of the matter is that some of them do not have anywhere else to go. If government can provide alternative accommodation, it will go a long way in reducing the casualty figures recorded during the rainy season every year.
