Flood washes away farm lands in 5 LGAs in Kano

Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) Kano state chapter has revealed that hundreds of hectares of rice plantations has been washed away by flood in five local government areas of the state. 

This was disclosed by RIFAN state chapter chairman Alhaji Abubakar Haruna Aliyu during a press conference held at RIFAN state’s secretariat, according to him the flood was so devastating to an extent that some farmers lost their lives.
 
The chairman gave the names of Warawa, Gabasawa, Minjibir, Gaya and Dawakin Kudu local government areas as the affected areas.

"A lot of farm lands majority of which are rice plantations have been washed away by the recent flooding as a result of the heavy downpour being experienced recently. We have received disturbing reports that some of our members lost hundreds of hectares of rice plantations, animals and also lives were also lost," said the chairman .

He further revealed that, as a constituted association, officials of the state RIFAN have been redeployed to compiled a list of affected members and also to quantify the lost incurred as a result of the flood.

"For the fact that most of our members are under the CBN anchor borrower programme, we are presently compiling a comprehensive report on the damages done which we will present to our nation body for further action in respect to the agreement reached with the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Company (NAIC) and as soon as we are through we will present our report," he added.
