The Transition Committee Chairman of Igboeze South Local Government Area in Enugu State, Dr Fidelis Odo, has reiterated his commitment to collaborate with the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency (ESEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to mitigate the risk of flooding in the area.

Dr Odo stated this yesterday when a team from the agencies carried a sensitisation workshop on the dangers of flooding for selected stakeholders in Ibagwa Aka, the council’s headquarters.

He said: “The sensitisation is timely and we at the council level will take this seriously. We shall take the sensitisation down to the grassroots, and also ensure that logistics are provided for the effective checks on flooding in Igboeze South.”

Executive Secretary of ESEMA, Barr. Mrs Nkechi Ene, alongside some NEMA officials, called on the trainees to take the exercise seriously.

Barr Eneh said: “Because of the dangers of flooding, you should desist from building along water channels; avoid felling of trees, dumping of refuse along water ways, mining at non-designated locations, ensuring enough drainage channels around buildings and along the roads.”
