The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has donated 12 trucks of grains and other relief materials to victims of flooding and other natural and human-induced disasters in Katsina State.

Handing over the materials to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for onward distribution to the beneficiaries in Katsina yesterday, the NEMA Director General (DG), Alhaji Mustapha Habib Ahmed, said the support materials were not meant to compensate the victims for what they have lost but only to alleviate their sufferings.

The DG, represented by the Director, Finance and Administration of the agency, Alhaji Sani Jiba, said 166 metric tons of maize, 142 metric tons of sorghum and 62.5 metric tons of millet were to be distributed to all the flood victims.

He added that other assorted items that will be given to the victims include 3,000 10kg bags of rice, maize and beans; 75 bags of 20kg salt; 75 kegs of 20litres vegetable oil; 150 bags of 20kg seasoning cubes; and 75 cartons of canned tomatoes, among others.

The DG acknowledged the efforts of the Katsina State government for providing first-line support to the victims and urged the beneficiaries to use the support for what it was meant for.

Receiving the items, the state emergency management agency’s boss, Alhaji Babangida Muhammad Nasamu, expressed the state’s appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Humanitarian Minister, Sadiya Umar Farouq and the NEMA for the support.
