Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, has called on Islamic clerics to prioritise teaching the fundamental principles of Islam to guide Muslims in proper worship.

Aliyu made the call while receiving members of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah from Kaduna and Jos during separate Sallah homage visits, according to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa.

“I appeal to our Islamic preachers to focus more on teaching Muslims the basic tenets of Islam so that people will learn how to properly worship their Creator,” the governor said.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to religious development, the governor said promoting Islamic affairs remains a top priority.

He announced that the state government would take full responsibility for supporting the annual Ramadan Tafseer organised by Izala groups.

He explained that the decision was aimed at relieving the groups of the burden of fundraising for the programme each year.

“We will set up a committee to assess your financial requirements for the conduct of the Tafseer, with a view to possible government intervention,” he said.

Aliyu also pledged sustained support for religious activities, including assistance for seminars and conferences, as well as the construction and renovation of Islamiyya schools and cemeteries.

Leaders of the Izala groups commended the governor’s efforts, noting improvements in mosque infrastructure and support for clerics across the state.
