The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) will this week commemorate its 40th anniversary with a grand celebration in Kaduna, bringing together prominent national leaders, dignitaries, and traditional rulers.

According to a statement signed by FOMWAN President, Alhaja Rafiah Idowu Sanni, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, will chair the occasion, while the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will serve as the Mother of the Day in recognition of her commitment to women’s empowerment and welfare.

Also expected at the historic gathering are Vice President Kashim Shettima and his wife, Nana Shettima, alongside the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, and his deputy, who will host the event.

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, will be the Royal Father of the Day, while His Highness, the Emir of Zazzau, is billed to serve as the Royal Host.

FOMWAN, founded in 1985, has been at the forefront of promoting the rights, education, and socio-economic advancement of Muslim women across Nigeria.

Over the past four decades, the organisation has expanded its reach through advocacy, community service, and partnerships aimed at uplifting women and girls.

“This anniversary celebration will be a fitting tribute to FOMWAN’s tireless efforts and achievements. It will provide a platform for reflection on our journey, our contributions to society, and our vision for the future,” Sanni said.

The event is expected to draw stakeholders, partners, and well-wishers who will reaffirm their commitment to FOMWAN’s mission of empowering Muslim women and advancing gender equity.
