A Kano State High Court has sentenced Hayatu Mohammed, a well-known football team coach in Kano, to eight years imprisonment without the option of a fine after being found guilty of committing sodomy against his minor player.

The convict, a resident of Sanka quarters of Dala Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, was found to have committed the offence twice at different locations.

The prosecuting counsel, Barrister Ibrahim Arif Garba, presented five witnesses who testified against the defendant. 

In his defence, the convict testified as the sole witness.

The Judge Dahuru, after reviewing all the witnesses’ testimonies and the evidence presented during the trials, upheld that the defendant committed the offence as charged and sentenced him to four years on each of the counts.

The judge further ordered that the sentences run concurrently, beginning from the day of judgment.
