Ahead of the elections into the Nigeria Football Federation board on September 30, some stakeholders have called for a peaceful, fair and free process.
The first Vice-President of NFF and Chairman, Lagos State Football Association, Barr Seyi Akinwunmi, said the elections should not be a do or die affair.
“We need to change the mentality of our football. Election is not a do or die affair. Football is the only thing that transcends religion, tribe or class. Football must come first,” he said.
Also, a former Super Eagles International, Victor Ikpeba, famously called Prince of Monaco urged the NFF Congress to vote for the right person as the president.
“I want to urge all my friends, the State FA chairmen and other congress members to search their hearts well and vote for the right person. I have been in this game for years and it is my passion to see our football doing very well,” he said.
Similarly, the National President of the Authentic Nigeria Football and Allied Sports Supporters Club, Abayomi Ogunjimi said the federation needs a leader who can take the country’s football to greater heights.
“The football family needs to come together as one and embrace peace and see beyond today. We should start planning a future that will meet up with the foreign standard of arrangement from the federation, to the stakeholders to the grassroots. We need a leader that has a listening ear, someone that will understand the wishes of the people, and someone that will take our football to the next level,” he said.
