The Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria (CIFCFIN) has sought collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to strengthen the fight against corruption in the country.
CIFCFIN’s founder and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Iliyasu Gashinbaki, made the call during a courtesy visit to ICAN’s global headquarters in Lagos.
He commended ICAN for sustaining high professional standards in accounting practice over the past 60 years.
Dr Gashinbaki said CIFCFIN was keen on partnering with ICAN to leverage its vast professional experience and expertise in order to deepen forensic and fraud investigation practices in Nigeria.

He clarified that CIFCFIN’s Establishment Act did not conflict with ICAN’s core mandate, noting that forensic accounting was only one of 127 domain areas covered within the broader forensics discipline.
In his response, ICAN’s President, Dr Yahaya Nma Haruna, expressed the institute’s readiness to collaborate and partner with CIFCFIN.
He said ICAN was willing to deploy its forensic faculty to provide guidance, given its recognised leadership in forensic accounting and auditing.
Dr Haruna also assured CIFCFIN of ICAN’s willingness to share its six decades of professional experience, while advising the institute to sustain collaboration with other relevant professional bodies.
Both institutes reaffirmed their commitment to continued engagement and partnership to advance forensic and fraud investigation practice in Nigeria.
