As the rainy season begins, the worsening condition of Fori Bridge in Maiduguri has become a serious concern for residents. The bridge, which was damaged during last year’s flood, is now at risk of total collapse. Its surface is covered with deep cracks, the foundation is severely eroded, and the road leading to it is full of potholes and washed-out sections, making movement dangerous.

This bridge serves as a vital connection between Fori and key areas such as Tashan Bama, Mairi, the University of Maiduguri, and Giwa Barracks. Thousands of people, including students, traders, and health workers, depend on it daily. If it fails completely, entire communities will be cut off and face even greater hardship.

Transport costs have already risen sharply as residents are forced to use longer routes. Vulnerable groups like children, mothers, and the elderly are the worst affected.

Residents have repeatedly raised their concerns to the government, but until now, no action has been taken. Many now fear that continued neglect will turn the bridge into a death trap.

I, therefore, appeal to the Borno State Government and the relevant authorities to act now before the rains return in full force. Fori Bridge is more than just a road; it is a lifeline. Fixing it cannot wait any longer.
