A former Ambassador to the Gambia, Mr. Ayuba Ngbako, has criticized the Chairman of Abuja Municpal Area Council (AMAC), Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Candido, for not performing up to the expectations of the electorate.

He said the ruling APC needs a credible candidate that would provide the desired dividends for residents of the council in the 2019 election in the area.

Ngbako, who is also a one-time chairman of the council and chieftain of the (APC), stated this while speaking with newsmen on Saturday.

He said there were some lapses such as lopsided appointments and lack of sustaining mutual relationship with the party’s stalwarts.

He said the ruling APC in the area needed a candidate that would provide the dividends of democracy, adding that the present administration has misplaced some of his priorities, especially the establishment of AMAC marshals who, he said, were no more in existence.

“In my own view, the AMAC chairman is not performing up to the expectations of the masses as his vision is not sustainable. For example, the AMAC marshals which he set up on his assumption of office is no longer functioning,” he said.

Ngbako however commended the conduct of the just concluded Senate and House of Representatives primaries in the FCT, saying the direct primaries was the best option for the people of the territory.

He called on party stakeholders and members to ensure they chose the right candidates in the forthcoming area council chairmanship primaries ahead of the 2019 council polls.

Reacting, the press secretary to the AMAC chairman, Mr. Dayo Lawal, said the issues raised by the former chairman were baseless.

He said there was no part of a political ward across the council that the present administration had not provided projects despite financial challenges, adding that such comment from the former ambassador was done out of envy because of the enviable performance of the council chairman.

“What Ayuba Ngbako was saying was out of envy, because the present administration has raised the benchmark of governance in AMAC,” he said.
