The Forum of Igala Journalists (FORIJA) has condemned the gruesome murder of Salome Ele-Ojo Adaidu, a corps member who was allegedly killed by Temileyin Ajayi.

A statement issued by Yusuf Akogu on behalf of the Association said “this heinous crime has sent shockwaves across the nation, and we cannot help but condemn it in the strongest terms possible”.

According to him, as journalists, FORIJA members have witnessed their fair share of senseless killings, but the incident had left them “speechless.”

“The thought of a young and promising life being cut short in such a brutal manner is devastating, and FORIJA can only imagine the pain and anguish that Salome’s family must be going through,” the forum said.

FORIJA urged the police and other relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served in the matter.

“We demand a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Salome’s murder and call for the perpetrators to be brought to book to serve as a deterrent to those involved in ritual killings and send a strong message that such crimes will not be tolerated in the society”. Akogu Stressed.

FORIJA is also concerned about the rising cases of brutal killings in Nigeria, which continue to occur despite efforts by law enforcement agencies. “We call on the government to take decisive action to address this menace, we cannot continue to lose our precious daughters to this heinous crime.” The statement read.

FORIJA called on government to ensure that justice is served and that measures are put in place to prevent such incidents in the future.

The group demanded for adequate security for citizens, particularly young women, and ensuring that law enforcement agencies have the necessary resources and support to investigate and prosecute perpetrators of such crimes.

FORIJA pledged to keep a close eye on the matter and continue to raise awareness about the dangers of brutal killings.

The group commiserated with Salome’s family and prayed that God grants them the fortitude to bear the loss.
