A grassroots forum of voters in Kogi State, under the aegis of the Ijumu Voters Forum (IVF), has responded to recent comments by former Senator Dino Melaye concerning the Chairman of the House Committee on Customs, Hon. Leke Abejide.

The group, in a statement signed by its coordinator, Hon. Eleta Kelvin Oluseyi, said Melaye’s remarks about Abejide were unnecessary and did not reflect developments within the constituency.

Melaye had recently criticised Abejide over the crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), prompting a response from the forum.

According to the IVF, public discussions on political matters should focus on leadership records, representation, and service delivery, noting that Abejide has made contributions in these areas.

The statement said Abejide’s interventions include job facilitation, road construction, support for school infrastructure, and empowerment programmes for students, youths, women, and families across Okunland.

“These are tangible projects that many people in the constituency can readily identify with,” the forum said.

The group added that political differences should not overshadow the developmental needs of the constituency, urging leaders to prioritise issues that promote unity and progress.

The IVF encouraged Abejide to remain focused on his legislative responsibilities and development initiatives rather than being drawn into political disputes.

“As sons and daughters of Okunland, many people appreciate leaders whose work produces visible results,” the statement noted.

The forum further urged all political actors to engage constructively, emphasising that leadership requires a commitment to service, collaboration, and respect for public expectations.

“We encourage all leaders to focus on advancing human development and strengthening democratic values,” the statement added.
