The Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society (AIS), in collaboration with the MacArthur Foundation, has urged the federal government and parents to take actions on the beneficial usage of the internet by children and youths.
The society gave the advice yesterday in Abuja at the closing ceremony of the four-day Digital Skills Training for Youths with the theme: “Promoting Digitally Skilled Youths for Corrupt-Free Society”.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of AIS, Imam Fuad Adeyemi, noted that knowing what the society was turning into with many youths engaging in using their mobile phones and other devices for fraudulent activities in the name of yahoo yahoo, “We cannot continue to complain only without taking action, and this was why we started this so that they can be making use of their phones to make legitimate money such that they become responsible at home in the community and to the nation.

“This is the third in this training, as we have done it in the South West and the North West. We have seen that they have started making legitimate money.”
He further said that the event was part of the organisation’s anti-corruption effort and that selected youths from the three states of Kogi, Kaduna and the FCT participated with the aim of equipping and empowering them for self-sufficiency while continuing to preach anti-corruption messages as anti-corruption ambassadors.
Also, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of AIS and Chairman of Epitome Group Ltd, Alhaji Kola Adeyemi, said that participants had been encouraging during the programme.
He said, “They have shown the willingness to learn and given hope to us as parents and leaders, making us believe that the challenge is firstly with us; that those under our care are adequately monitored and tutored.”
