Nigerians have been urged to embrace the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and other forms of entrepreneurship as part of measures to be financially independent.

The founder of Al-Mustofiyya Islamic Society of Nigeria (MISN), Ustaz Maisuna M. Yahya, gave the advice in Abuja at the “Halal Entrepreneurship Training and Business Management Skills” organised by the organisation.

According to him, the training was due to the Shariah and guidance of Islam that entrepreneurship should be part of every Muslims.

“All past prophets and messengers of Allah were all entrepreneurs and none of them was idle. This is why in a saying of Prophet Muhammad, it was reported that ‘It is better for a man to go into the bush and fetch firewood to sell is better for him than being a beggar’. “It is high time, we learn and practice entrepreneurship to help ourselves and which is also in line with the Federal Government diversification from oil and job creation efforts,” he said.

Speaking on “Life Calculator: Money Management and Savings” the Women Coordinator of the society, Hajia Rasheedat Kotun, urged participants and Nigerians to be intentional with money management and investment.

According to her, people should be weary of unbridled desires and buying all that they desired rather than saving and investing.

She therefore urged parents to inculcate the attitude of savings and investment in the children thorough leading by example so that the children can be practical and deliberate too.
