A Kano based Charity Organisation, Nafisa and Babba Danagundi foundation has awarded scholarship to 63 orphans studying in various primary schools in the state.
Speaking while presenting the award to the beneficiaries, the founder of the foundation, Hajiya Binta Sarki Mukhtar, said the gesture was done under the foundation’s 2017 scholarship scheme.
She said the scholarship programme was introduced since 2013, adding “Today’s event (yesterday) is the fifth edition since the commencement of the exercise. With the increasing number of orphans across the nation especially in the northeast there is a need for well-meaning Nigerians to braze up to the challenge.
“These are our children as well, they have lost their parents and their responsibilities now rest on our shoulders. It is very important that we assist them because it can be anybody’s child. Let us assist them to acquire knowledge to shape their future,” she urged.
Kano Chronicle observed that each orphan was given a bag that contained complete learning kits and cash.
