The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) has commenced its tree planting initiative in the Federal Capital Territory with a call on students to cultivate the culture of planting trees for the preservation of the environment.

The exercise, Green Stations Schools Project, was kicked started with collaboration between the NCF and Total Energies, aimed at imbibing the culture of protecting the environment on the students.

Speaking at the commencement of the programme and planting of 50 trees at the Government Secondary school, Tudun Wada, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, Mohammed Boyi, Head, Abuja office of the NCF, said the project was aimed at mobilising students to conduct planting of trees in their school and to also inform them of the values associated with tree planting.

In his welcome address, the principal of the school, Mr. Akor Joseph, said human beings need regular reminders of the connection with nature and the planet. “The health of our planet is essential to our own health and well-being and our future and trees are essential part of this.
