Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, the founder of Maryam Abacha American University in Niger Republic, has donated a 60-seater luxury bus to Kaduna Polytechnic to help address part of the institution’s transportation problems.
Speaking during the handover of the bus to the management of the school, Prof. Gwarzo said Kadpoly was the country’s third institution to benefit from the N250 million sub education support programme.
Gwarzo, who was represented by the Director, International Linkages in Collaboration and Affiliations (DILCA), Dr Bala Muhammad Tukur, said Bayero University, Kano and Federal University, Dutsinma in Katsina State have also benefited from a similar project adding that Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria would soon be given its own bus.
According to him, the foundation also assisted Kadpoly with facemasks and sanitisers during the 2020 lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his remarks, the Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic, Professor Muhammad Bugaje, who was represented by the Director, Academic, Dr. Ibrahim Bello Bashir, said the bus would reduce transportation difficulties faced by students of the institution as they shuttle between the four campuses.
Also, the school’s Dean of Students Affairs, Farouq Ndamadu Musa assured that the bus will be used properly for the benefit of the students.
He urged wealthy individuals and organisations to emulate the university by assisting education in Nigeria, adding that the gesture done by the university to Kadpoly will no doubt strengthen their relationship.
