A trustee of the foundation, Mrs. Eghogbo Sanomi during the foundations third annual essay competition in Abuja at the weekend said it was important to keep children abreast of the effects of climate change on the globe in a catch-them-young strategy to protect the environment.
Sanomi said the foundation has also felt the need to advocate on positive use of social media to reduce various cases of insecurity in the country.
“The idea is to transfer knowledge to the youths. We introduce these topics to them so that they can educate themselves through research on challenges, politics and others. Climate change is a big issue in the West, but there is low awareness on it here,” she said.
Mercy Abang, a renowned blogger cautioned children on the dangers of posting personal information and dating on Facebook, citing people who “check in” their locations online.
“Some Nigerians do not even use social media network responsibly and accurately,” she said, stressing how many post updates without getting accurate facts about incidents or individuals.
