The Sir Emeka Offor Foundation has donated a N70 million hall to the Abuja Rotary Centre.
Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony of the hall, founder of the foundation, and Rotary Polio Ambassador, Sir Emeka Offor, said it was important to have a rotary centre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He said Rotary was built on friendship and fellowship through continuous engagement and cross fertilization of ideas, adding, “ We should therefore have a place of our own where we can congregate and bring out ideas that will touch the lives of our communities.”
He said the completion of the hall was expected to create endless opportunities for the Rotary family.
Offor said the hall has a seating capacity of 1,600 and has been fully funded at the contract sum of N70 million. He added that the hall would be completed in 12 weeks.
District Governor, Rotary International, D9125, Dr Victor Onukwugha, said with the hall, Nigeria could now compete with countries like South Africa to ensure that the Rotary International African Regional Office is headquartered in Nigeria, among other benefits .
“This will enable the country expand its coast and benefit more of humanity,” he said.
