Fame Foundation in collaboration with the French Embassy in Nigeria has organised a Para Soccer tournament for People Living With Disabilities (PWDs) in Kano.
The tournament with the theme “Play it, dream it inclusion tournament” was a two day activity aimed at promoting sporting activities among youth and bridging the gap among youthful people with disabilities (PWDs) of youthful age in the State.
Speaking, the Executive Director, Fame Foundation, Aderonke Ogunleye Bello said, “the programme is aimed at embracing inclusion. We are here to support the youth, especially people with disabilities as you know the world focuses on persons not living with disabilities, then what about those living with it?
“Secondly, it is to encourage them and advocate for equal access and ending discrimination using sports as a tool to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality and reduction in inequality.”

At least eight teams took part in the well attended tournament which was held at the Mahaha Sports Centre in Kano.
Also speaking, a former chairman of the then Nigeria Football Association and Chairman of Kano Sports Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima commended the organisers and thanked them for thinking outside the box to include PWDs in their programme.
“I hope to see more of this. By organising things like this, at least those who are not employed and are begging in the streets can be engaged positively.”
At the end of the tournament, Team Equality finished first, Team Sigma placed second while Team Tolerance emerged third.
