Foundation gifts libraries to 7 school

A Non-governmental organisation, Zaccheus Onumba Dibiaezue Memorial Libraries (ZODML), has donated libraries to a total seven schools in Anambra state.

The beneficiaries were made up of two secondary schools, Community Secondary School Amawbia and Ezi-Awka secondary school Awka, as well as five primary schools, Community Primary School Amawbia, Igwedimma Primary School Amawbia, Ezi-Awka Primary school, Uru Okwe primary school Enugwu Ukwu and Ozalla primary school Abagana.

Speaking during the simultaneous commissioning of the libraries in Community Secondary School Amawbia, the foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Ego Mbagwu, said the libraries were set up to promote reading and self-education.

She said the foundation aimed at making it possible for the students to have access to book, particularly those who cannot afford book, adding that reading stumulates the imagination of children and expands their understanding of the world.

“Research has it that reading aids in brain development, especially in the first five years of a child. It also promotes the literary skills and foundational language of a child.

“Library is a necessary adjunct of any educational institution. Studies have shown that a lack of quality instructional and learning materials leads to poor academic performance in children.
