Daughters of Abraham Foundation (DOAF), an Abuja-based organisation, has graduated 11 girls and women in various vocation skills, as part of measures to transform their lives.
The foundation, which was started by the late Julie Useni, wife of a former minister of the FCT, Lt. General Jeremiah Useni (rtd), now a serving senator, trains vulnerable girls and women in skills that would make them self-reliant and productive.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony on Wednesday at Jabi, Abuja, the foundation’s director, Mrs Margaret Bargo, said the girls and women had been taught skills that would reconnect them with their God and restore their human dignity.
“The 11 daughters that graduated today, by the grace of God, had been trained in all life skills,” she said.
She added that 33 girls and women were admitted and sheltered by the foundation at the beginning of the year but that six dropped out while 16 were still undergoing training.
She thanked the patron of the foundation, Senator Useni and other partners for their support which had enabled the foundation to carry out its programmes.
Meanwhile, the president of DOAF, Mrs Esther Bigun, has urged the girls to remember the purpose for which they were created by God and strive to make a difference in the society.
“Every year girls are trained and equipped with both spiritual and physical skills for sustainable livelihood after graduation. These skills will also enable you to be relevant in the society as well as in the kingdom of God. Bring Jesus in to your establishment and home through prayers, standing for, and doing the right thing,” Bigun said.
City News learnt that the girls were trained in hair dressing, tailoring, beads making, among other skills.
