In a renewed effort to promote education and youth development, the Aliu Olamilekan Bello Foundation, has successfully organized a Quiz and Debate Competition for public secondary schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The educational initiative, convened by Aliu Olamilekan Bello, was designed to complement the efforts of the Kwara State Government in strengthening academic excellence and nurturing intellectual capacity among young people across the state.
The programme featured students from nine public secondary schools who showcased impressive academic depth, confidence, and critical thinking skills before an enthusiastic audience. The competition was conducted in five stages, with sessions covering general education, current affairs, and debate.
At the end of the keenly contested event, Bollywilly College, Ilorin, emerged as the overall winner. Musab Islamic College secured second position, while United Secondary School clinched third place.
Other participating schools included Government Day Secondary School, Gaa Akanbi; United Community Secondary School; Sango Senior Secondary School; Sheikh Abdul Salaam Secondary School; Ansarul Islam Secondary School; and Government Day Secondary School, Tanke.
As part of the rewards, the first, second, and third-placed schools shared a total prize of ₦500,000, while each of the remaining six participating schools received ₦5,000 in appreciation of their efforts.
Speaking on the objective of the competition, the convener stated that the initiative was aimed at shaping a brighter future for Kwara State and Nigeria, emphasizing that investment in young people is a responsibility that must not be ignored. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting children regardless of their background or social status.
The programme also acknowledged the roles of national and state leadership in advancing youth development and educational growth. Special recognition was given to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for their visions and policies that prioritize education, youth empowerment, and human capital development.
The event was attended by key political and community stakeholders, including the APC Chairman in Ilorin South, the Chairman of Ilorin South Local Government, the Women Leader, and other party executive members.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of cheques to the winning schools, which brought the programme to a celebratory close.
Education stakeholders and community leaders commended the AOB Foundation for its vision and consistency, describing the quiz and debate competition as a timely intervention that promotes academic excellence, confidence-building, and healthy intellectual competition among secondary school students in Kwara State.
