The Dahiru Barau Mangal Foundation has offered free hernia, hydrocele and eye treatment to more than 2,700 vulnerable patients through its humanitarian healthcare programme in Katsina State.

The foundation said more than 30,000 indigent patients have received free medical services through its outreach programmes across the state since 2018.

Speaking at the launch of the free hernia and hydrocele surgery programme at the General Hospital, Katsina, a member of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Hussaini Kabir, said over 700 patients from Katsina and neighbouring states would undergo free surgeries.

He said the initiative was aimed at improving access to quality healthcare for poor and vulnerable people who could not afford treatment.

Kabir explained that patients diagnosed with hernia and hydrocele were being screened before surgery, while those with less severe conditions would receive free medication.

“The programme is conducted periodically and fully sponsored by Alhaji Dahiru Bara’u Mangal to provide quality healthcare services to the less privileged members of society.

“Patients requiring surgery will receive it free of charge, while those with less severe conditions will be treated with appropriate medications at no cost,” he said.

The foundation has also commenced the screening and treatment of about 2,000 patients with various eye conditions at the Katsina Eye Centre.

Patients who need prescription eyeglasses are being provided with them free of charge, while those requiring surgery have been scheduled for free eye operations.

Beneficiaries praised the intervention, describing it as life-changing.

One of them, Malama Zulaihat Adamu from Jibia, said she was delighted that her son would finally undergo a hernia operation after years of being unable to afford the procedure.

She thanked the foundation for easing the burden on poor families and giving many patients a new lease of life.
