No fewer than 6,000 indigent persons in Jigawa state benefited from a free medical outreach sponsored by a non- governmental organization, Nasiru Haladu Danu (NHD) Medical Mission Foundation.

The outreach was conducted by seven medical doctors and three nurses from the United States of America (USA).

The foreign doctors worked in collaboration with over 10 indigenous doctors and nurses from Jigawa state for the three-day outreach which was conducted at Rasheed Shokoni Specialist Hospital in Dutse.

Speaking during the outreach, the founder, Alhaji Nasiru Haladu Danu, who is an indigene of Jigawa state, said the medical personnel would treat all persons who came with complains of ailment.

He said his decision to embark on free medical mission was to give back what the society had given to him and urged wealthy individuals in the state to also come on board with a similar mission in order to uplift the health condition of the underserved majority in the state.

According to him, the NHD medical mission, working with the support of pharmaceutical companies and hospitals, was registered in Georgia in the USA and has been working for the past 10 years.

Danu, who is also the traditional tittle holder of Dan Amanan Dutse, said that the service was made public to serve as an inspiration to the well-to-do in the society, adding that the gesture had no political undertone.

“We decided to make the work of the foundation open in order to encourage others to emulate us. You don’t need to have political ambition for you to do that. Basically, what we are doing is a humanity work in trying to see how we can make significant impact on the lives of others.

“It is also meant to appreciate the doctors from Northside Hospital Georgia USA and other pharmaceutical companies that give support to this foundation. The foundation is always ready to partner with all professionals for the purpose of giving healthcare services to our people. I must commend the good people and government of Jigawa state for all the support accorded to us.”

In her remark, the team leader of the visiting doctors, Nene Chibuzor Ike, said the NHD Medical Mission Foundation, sponsored the professionals to travel from different parts of the USA to Nigeria to provide healthcare to a community in need.

She commended the foresight of the founder of the foundation, who saw a need to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.

“He is very transparent in his wishes to improve the health of his fellow countrymen by providing fund for the committed healthcare professionals to use their skills to improve the health of men, women and children.”

The Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Muhammadu Nuhu Sanusi, commended the humanitarian gesture of the philanthropist urging all well to do from his emirate to emulate him.
He urged the beneficiaries to cooperate with the medical personnel for a smooth exercise.

“We are very proud to associate ourselves with one of our own, reaching out to underprivileged by providing free medical services, is a gesture that could go a long way in touching the lives of the common people.”

The state governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdulkadir Fanini, said the state government appreciated the gesture of the philanthropist by bringing the best professionals to the door step of the people.

“Intervention of this magnitude, is not only for the poor as it also helps the government by reducing some of the burden of providing health care to the people.”
One of the beneficiaries, Malama Hauwa, told Chronicle that she was diagnosed and given medicine during the exercise.

“I can’t quantify the cost of the medicine given to me but by their volume they must be amounting to huge amount of money.”
