The Godwin Obla Foundation has entered an agreement with the Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo (FUHSO) for endowment of N40 million prizes.
Also, the foundation commissioned and donated the Judith Ogwa Obla Memorial Kidney Centre to the university’s teaching hospital.
Chief Godwin Obla, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, had on March 21, 2022, lost his wife Judith, in the United States of America, “as a result of complications arising from diabetes which led to kidney failure.”
He noted that the sad incident prompted him to donate a centre that will provide basic dialysis facilities to people, adding that within a year, the project, which took off in December 2022, is now ready for use.

Obla explained that while his late wife had the benefit of first-class facilities in the United States where she had to be more present to access the facilities, anytime she came home renewed the rude awakening of the dearth of facilities.
He noted that his foundation has spent more than double the initial estimate of N150 million for the project, migrating from providing purely dialysis services to a centre for training, services and research.
The Judith Ogwa Obla Memorial Kidney Centre has six units of brand-new dialysis machines with manufacturer’s warranty; two beds in the Intensive Care Unit; laboratory; laundry; two dialysis wards with cable TV; conference room equipped with cable TV with provision for online trainings; various medical equipment to meet various needs; 1,000 litre water reservoir/harvester; in house water processing plant.
Meanwhile, the N40m prize endowment is split into Judith Ogwa Obla endowment of N10m, for the best graduating student in Nephrology; Joseph Elagbaje Obla Snr endowment of N10m, for best graduating student in Internal Medicine; Godwin Odumu Obla SAN endowment of N10m, for the best graduating student in Urology and Dr. Idoko Edwin One, Osonyeta K’Idoma and Odejo Owukpa endowment of N10m for the best overall graduating student.
