In a statement signed by its National Secretary Malam Abdullahi Yahaya, the foundation appealed to politicians from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ensure that campaigns are issue-based, noting that although political campaigns are part of individuals’ rights to freedom of expression, they should not go beyond certain boundaries in order not to cause disaffection.
“Jama’a Foundation frowns upon a situation where violence or force is used to express support for political parties or candidates. The electorate should give consideration to candidates that can be trusted with leadership positions and who can improve their lives and facilitate development and not those who will induce them with money to sway their opinion and to also cause trouble,” the foundation said.
The group also lamented the way and manner politicians from the two parties are overheating the polity, stressing that elections would come and go, but the citizens would remain as brothers and neighbours.
Meanwhile, the group has donated some working materials to the vigilante operatives in the area and urged them to effectively contribute towards ensuring peace and harmony in the area in particular and Kaduna State in general.
