Aliyu Bello Foundation (ABF), said it would partner with the Nasarawa State Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) to promote grassroots sports in the state.

Mr Aliyu Bello, founder of ABF made a disclosure while briefing newsmen yesterday in Lafia, the state capital.

Bello who is also the Nasarawa State Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), noted that arrangements have reached an advanced stage to revive the under-13 competition in the state.

He said by the grace of God, the competition that would feature pupils in Primary School and Junior Secondary School, would hold early 2022.

“The last time the under-13 football tournament was held in the state was in 1999. So, we will revive the competition in collaboration with SWAN and others football stakeholders to give young players a platform to showcase their skills.

“We want to catch them young and develop their skills so that some of them could pursue careers in soccer,” Bello added.

He further explained that SWAN has a great role to play in publicising the games and the young players to the outside world.

The APC Secretary said his foundation has been supporting sporting activities and players and promised to continue to invest in grassroots sports for the overall development of the state.
