At least 500 women and youths have been trained on skills acquisition across Toto Local Government Council of Nasarawa State and parts of Kogi as well as the FCT by Maikaya Development Foundation.
The chief executive officer of the foundation, Alhaji Mohammed Umar Maikaya, who disclosed this in an interview with our reporter, said the women and youths were selected across the local government and parts of Kogi and FCT, and trained on tailoring, hairdressing, soap making, tie and dye, among others.
He said the desire of the foundation was to enable both women and youths to become self-reliant.
According to him, the foundation, which was a non-profit organisation, was aimed at improving the social, economic and health wellbeing of individuals and communities at large, with key focus on peace, economic empowerment for women and youths.
He said the foundation has touched the lives of the vulnerable people irrespective of ethnicity, religion, gender or political affiliation, which was in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are built on principles of “leaving no one behind.”
“And this foundation has also been able to intervene in the area of gully erosion control in some communities especially in Nasarawa State, while we have also been able to foot the bills for both WAEC and JAMB for some students,” he said.
