Four arraigned over robbery, kidnapping

Four persons were arraigned before court 52, sitting at No Man’s Land in Kano, over five suspected cases which include criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of prohibited firearms and armed robbery, contrary to Section 6 (a) (b) & (c) and Section 3 of the Robbery and Firearms Act (Special Provision).

Other offences they were accused of include kidnapping and mischief, contrary to Sections 97 and 237 of the Penal Code Law.

The accused, one Abubakar Ahmad 30, of Miltara quarters, Kano; Adamu Suleman of Zaria Local Government of Kaduna State; Ori Sule and one other simply identified as Likita (now at large) all of Funtua local government of Katsina state, were alleged to have conspired and attacked Kazame village along Tsafe-Sokoto high way.

They were also alleged to have stopped one Mr Kayode Lawan, who was driving a commercial Toyota Hiace loaded with carrots, on his way to Lagos from Sokoto.

The prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Dango , told the court that the accused allegedly kidnapped the victim (Kayode) to an unknown location while his motor vehicle was driven to Kano by one of the suspects, Abubakar Ahmad, where it was dismantled into pieces.

The prosecutor also told the court that the victim was later rescued by the police during the course of investigation.

After the First Information Report (FIR) was read to the accused, they pleaded not guilty and the judge, Senior Magistrate Aisha Muhammad Yahaya, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and the case was adjourned to 6/5/2019 for further mention.
