Francis Epe once again proved his dominance on the green as he closed out 2024 by claiming his second Ultimate Golf Challenge title at the prestigious Ikoyi Golf Course.

Epe triumphed over one of his fiercest rivals, Ghana’s Vincent Torgah, along with 38 other top golfers drawn from the PGA of Nigeria’s Order of Merit list, the USPGA, and neighbouring countries. Epe delivered an impressive score of 6-under par 136, clinching victory by two strokes over a determined Torgah.

The champion opened with a solid 3-under par 68 and replicated the feat in the closing round for a 136-total to secure the title. Despite Torgah’s spirited comeback with a stunning 4-under 67 in the final round, it wasn’t enough to unseat Epe, who held his composure to emerge victorious on a course where he also holds the record.

Ikoyi Club’s Patrick Paul finished third with a 1-over par 143 across 36 holes. Other standout performers included Gabriel Ejembi and Godwin Okoko, who showcased their skills in the fiercely competitive field.

The Grand Patron of the Ultimate Golf Challenge, Femi Pedro, expressed his satisfaction with the event, commending the organizing committee for their efforts.

He reiterated the importance of supporting professional golf in Nigeria, stating, “The Ultimate Golf Challenge was established to grow professional golf in Nigeria and support our players. We will continue to work for the progress of the sport.”

Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Akin Semowo, emphasized plans to improve future editions of the tournament. “It’s been an incredible event, especially with the support we’ve received. The unique format of playing 36 holes in one day is part of our strategy to make this tournament stand out,” Semowo said.

The Ultimate Golf Challenge continues to set a benchmark for professional golf tournaments in Nigeria, further cementing its reputation as a key event in the country’s sporting calendar.
