A Lagos State High Court in Igbosere has sentenced an Indian national, Sandeep Gogia, to a maximum of 15 years imprisonment for defrauding a telecommunication firm, Boars Communication Limited of $250,000.
The trial judge, Justice Lawal Akapo, sentenced him after he was found guilty on the fraud charge against him and his company, Eastern Metal Limited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Delivering judgement yesterday, the court found Gogia guilty of conspiracy, obtaining under false pretence but freed him on allegation of stealing.
The court thereafter sentenced him to seven years imprisonment for conspiracy and 15 years for obtaining money by false pretence. The punishments are to run concurrently from October 25, 2018.
The judge however freed him on the third count charge of stealing and ordered him to pay restitution of N59.7 million to the victim.
“The second defendant, Eastern Metals Limited is to be wound up and the assets forfeited to the Federal Government,” Justice Akapo held.
