Kano State Shari’a Court No. 1, sitting at Kofar Kudu in Kano Municipal, has ordered Malam Usman Yahaya to swear an oath on the Holy Qur’an regarding allegations of defrauding Abubakar Alhassan Abba, a resident of Sani Mainagge Quarters, of over N10 million.
The accused was arraigned on charges of fraud, cheating, and intimidation, to which he pleaded not guilty.
In his testimony, the complainant told the court that the accused initially contacted him by phone, introducing himself as a religious scholar with spiritual powers (Ruhani).
He claimed to work with jinn and offered to pray for people regarding their daily affairs.
The complainant alleged that the accused threatened him with instant death should he disclose their dealings to anyone.
He further stated that for over a year, the accused repeatedly demanded money, insisting that the requested sums be delivered immediately, regardless of the amount.
He informed the court that the matter was first reported at a Magistrate Court before he applied for the case to be transferred to the Shari’a Court.
After reviewing the submissions and the circumstances of the case, the presiding judge, Shamsuddeen Ado Abdullahi Unguwar Gini, ordered the accused to swear with the Holy Qur’an at a Friday Juma’at mosque.
The oath is to be taken under the supervision of court officials as part of the formal proceedings.
The case is expected to continue following the administration of the oath.
