The arraignment of a former Executive Director of Aso Savings and Loans, Maimuna Aliyu over allegations bordering on fraud has been stalled again due to her absence in court.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC) said it was charging Maimuna for allegedly selling off three plots of land: 2432; 2433; and 2434 in Cadastral Zone B08, Jahi District, Abuja, on behalf of Aso Savings and Loans Ltd at the cost of N57 million without remitting same to the bank.
She was also accused of making false statement to officials of the commission.
Daily Trust reports that the arraignment earlier scheduled for November 28 could not go ahead because the judge, Justice M.A. Nasir was said to be attending a workshop for judges selected to handle corruption cases.
Maimuna was also noticeably absent in court on that day and the court rescheduled the arraignment to December 5.
However, when the matter came up today, Maimuna was absent in court again leading the court to further reschedule the arraignment to December 14.
Daily Trust reports that Maimuna is the mother of Maryam Sanda recently charged for allegedly killing her husband Bilyaminu Bello, a nephew of a former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bello Halliru Muhammadu.
Maryam’s trial is scheduled to commence on Thursday at an FCT High court, also sitting in Jabi where the mother is also scheduled for arraignment, although before different judges.
The court had ordered that she be remanded in prisons when she was arraigned on November 24 for murder charges.
