The police in Osun have arrested a man for allegedly using the uniform of the Nigerian Army to defraud unsuspecting people in the state.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, told Daily Trust that the suspect, John Abu, was parading himself as a top military officer in the state before he was arrested, adding that he would face the full wrath of the law as soon as investigation is concluded.

In an interview with our correspondent, the suspect said his passion for army uniform was irresistible which compelled him to buy and wear it. 

He confessed to have gotten the uniform from Lagos by lying to a soldier, one Stephen, that he was an army officer and gave him (Stephen) money to get the uniform for him.

He said: “I always feel very comfortable whenever I’m wearing army uniform. I just have passion for the army uniform. I got it from Lagos. I sent money to Stephen to buy it for me. Stephen is a real soldier. 

“I told him that I’m also an army officer and that I needed uniform. He advised me to buy it from my unit but I pleaded with him to help me buy and send to me. He eventually agreed and he sent it. I will just wear it and sit down comfortably somewhere.”

The suspect’s confession infuriated some soldiers from the Nigerian Army 2nd Engineering Mechanised Division, Ede, who stumbled on the scene and overheard his accounts of how he got the uniform, and attempted to roughhandle him but were prevented by the police on ground.
