Fraudster who collected N50,000 from POS operator nabbed

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 25-year-old man, Muhammed Abubakar, over an attempt to defraud a POS operator and a filling station attendant.

The incident, it was gathered, occurred at Amoyo when the suspect attempted to escape after ordering the POS operator to transfer N50,000 for him.

He also bought fuel and yoghurt but had not paid when he attempted to escape.

NSCDC spokesman, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, said “The suspect attempted to defraud a filling station attendant, Abdulraheem Nafisat, of N50,000.

He bought fuel and a yoghurt in the filling station and also asked the attendant to transfer the money to his account.

“He was expected to pay cash to the POS operator but instead tried to leave the filling station without making the necessary payments.

“The POS/filling station attendant later raised an alarm which attracted officers of the NSCDC and the man was picked up”.

Afolabi said the suspect assaulted one of the NSCDC officers during investigation.

He, however, added that “Further interrogation revealed that the suspect was a serial fraudster who had earlier defrauded a hotel receptionist and a supermarket attendant.

“The State Commandant, Iskilu Ayinla Makinde, had called for a full-scale investigation after which the suspect will be charged to court”.
