Fred Otodo clinched the overall best net prize at the 70th birthday golf kitty held in honour of Engr. Andrew Yakubu at TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club (TYB-IGRCC) in Abuja. Playing off a handicap of 24, Otodo returned a remarkable gross score of 88 and a net score of 64, emerging as the overall winner in a fiercely contested event.

The celebrant, Engr. Yakubu, a distinguished Nigerian and former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), marked his milestone birthday with a special golf kitty, award night, and dinner over the weekend in Abuja.

The tournament, which teed off early on Saturday, November 15, attracted over 200 golfers—professionals, amateurs, women, and veterans—competing across multiple categories.

Brig. Gen. Nicholas Ashinze, TYB Golf Club Captain, lauded the celebrant, saying:

“Engr. Yakubu is more than a friend of this club — he is part of its history. His support, humility, and passion for the game inspire every golfer who walks through our gates. Celebrating his 70th with this tournament is our way of honouring a man whose generosity and commitment have helped shape TYB-IGRCC into the vibrant community it is today. We wish him strength, joy, and many more memorable swings on our fairways.”

Dr. Ali Peters, Vice Captain of the club, added “He loves golf and has supported this club over the years. I’ve known him for quite a long while, and he has always shown respect, dedication, and integrity. He truly represents what a distinguished gentleman stands for. I wish him more time on the fairway, good life, more wins and accolades.”

Reflecting on her husband’s journey, Mrs. Sarah Yakubu said “Today marks my husband’s 70th birthday. He’s truly a remarkable man. My prayer is that he soars like the eagle and achieves all he desires with God on his side.”
