There will be a screening of the Japanese animated film, ‘Jungle Emperor Leo’ by Yoshio Takeuchi next Thursday at the Institut Français du Nigeria, Abuja.
Alice O’Reilly, Cultural Programme Officer at the Institut, said: “We always have an animated film festival in October every year across the world. At the beginning of the year, the Japanese Embassy had indicated interest to do this and so we decided to partner with them on it, especially as they have a lot of animated film productions annually.
‘Jungle Emperor Leo’ (劇場版 ジャングル大帝) is a 100 minute 1997 Japanese animated movie focusing on the second half of Osamu Tezuka’s manga, Jungle Taitei, and seeks to keep Tezuka’s legacy alive with an animated version of his work.
This is the story of Leo, the white lion, as he maintains his rule over the jungle with his wife, Liya and their two cubs, Rune and Rukyo. When a group of men enter the jungle searching for Mount Moon, site of the lucrative moonlight stones valued as a potential energy source, Leo tries to keep the humans’ disruption to a minimum until he decides to form an alliance with Professor Hige Oyaji.
