Friends lure me into armed robbery – Suspect
A suspect arrested for car theft, Onyekachi Egeribe, 28, has said he was into armed robbery as a result of keeping bad friends.
Oyekachi from Anambra State was arrested by the Edo State Police Command for the alleged stealing of a Toyota Corolla with registration number JJJ 896 FP in Edo State.
“Three of us stole the car. We took it to my house and packed it there so that we could get a buyer but one of my friends called Wotowoto removed the brain box of the vehicle which made it difficult for us to drive it.
“We went to hire a towing van to help us tow the vehicle to Uwelu spare part market to butcher it so that we could sell the parts. When we got to Uwelu, I asked my friends to be with them so that I could go and eat.
“When I left, the chairman of the market demanded the vehicle papers and my friends left with the excuse of going to bring them but never came back.
“It was when I came to meet my friends that I was arrested by the police.
“This is my first time of stealing. It was bad friends that led me to armed robbery. I feel bad now that I am arrested,” he said.
CP Dankwara said the suspect in collaboration with two others stole the vehicle at No 19, Obayantor Street behind Edaike Palace, Uselu.
The owner of the vehicle, the commissioner said, reported to the police that he was entering his compound when the suspect and his accomplices robbed him of his car at gunpoint.
He said the suspect was arrested at the Uwelu spare part market while he was about to sell it and that the car and a gun were recovered from the suspect.
Dankawra said the suspect would be charged to court soon.
